Ilgvars Pauls – Latvian Master of Mountaineering, Officer of the Three Stars Order.
Born on the 24th of September 1957 in Jelgava.
Education – higher (civil engineer).
Has been a mountaineer since 1978. Has taken part in nine Himalayan “eight-thousandander” expeditions during which the following peaks were reached: Dhaulagiri, Cho Oyu, Mount Everest, Lhotse, Gasherbrum II, Nanga Parbat un Shisha Pangma (Central Summit). The “Seven Summit Program” has also been carried out by reaching the highest summits of all continents.
Film director Ansis Epners (1937-2003) has shot the movie “A Highlander from Cieleni” (premiere in 2001) dedicated to Ilgvars Pauls.
Ilgvars Pauls is the author of the book “Second Face of Mount Everest” (issued in 2007).
